Chemical properties of sodium hexametaphosphate
Structure: Sodium hexametaphosphate is a cyclic compound composed of six sodium phosphate units.
Hydrolyzability: It is gradually hydrolyzed to orthophosphate in water.
Chelation: can form stable chelates with calcium, magnesium and other metal ions.
Stability: stable in dry environments, but easy to absorb moisture in wet environments.

Melting point: 616°C (decomposition)

Preparation method of sodium hexametaphosphate
Thermal method: Sodium dihydrogen phosphate is heated to 600-700°C and dehydrated to form sodium hexametaphosphate.
Reaction. : 6NaH₂PO₄ → (NaPO₃)₆ + 6H₂O
Wet method: Phosphoric acid reacts with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium phosphate, and then obtains by dehydration condensation.
